December 4, 2014 at 4:15 pm #28410Hi Tony, the piano is a frat go to instrument for just about any style of music. Welcome!

@zetaliesin I agree! But maybe I’m biased because that’s my instrument of choice!
December 4, 2014 at 4:48 pm #28421I mean it’s all right there on the piano. What more could you want?
December 4, 2014 at 6:49 pm #28434@zeitaliesin My feelings exactly! I’m curious, what is the meaning of the logo in your avatar?
December 4, 2014 at 9:53 pm #28466Hi fellow musicians and ear trainers…. I am here to develop my ear more… back in the mid 90s I spent 8 hours a day every day and 10 hours a day on weekends for 3 whole months and after that amount of time I was able to hear a top 40 lick on the radio and put it on the guitar first try after hearing it for the 1st time…. I then got away from the instrument for 10 years and only picked it up about once every 6 months that 10 year period… recently got back in to it a couple years ago and my ear is beginning to come back as I have noticed I have been nailing licks in a couple tries and figuring melodies out in a matter of seconds…. when it comes to naming them without an instrument in hand or naming chords by sound alone I have realized that my brain/ear/hand coordination is good but weak without a guitar in hand…. so I came here to hone my ear so that I can recognize pitches, chords etc… by sound alone without relying on an instrument to write what I hear…
December 4, 2014 at 10:42 pm #28471@mike52669 Welcome! It sounds like you’re pretty good at figuring out things by ear. Something for us all to strive for.hopefully without that kind of time commitment :D
December 5, 2014 at 2:17 am #28497Welcome @mike52669! It’s funny how some things just seem to come back naturally, even after long periods of time. Feel free to look around, and let us know if you have any questions!
December 5, 2014 at 4:40 am #28503Hi!
I AM MARIA. I AM TRYING TO LEARN HOW TO PLAY THE PIANO WITH THE CHORD METHOD. AT THIS TIME I HAVE AN OLDER KEYBOARD TO BE UPDATED IF I FIND THAT I CAN DO THIS. PLAYING WITH THE CHORD METHOD TURNED OUT TO BE A LOT HARDER THAN I EXPECTED. I REALLY WANTED A PIANO, BUT THEY ARE TOO EXPENSIVE NEW, AND A USED PIANO COMES WITH TRANSPORTATION COSTS, TUNING, ETC. NOT PRACTICAL
December 5, 2014 at 6:04 am #28529@jplezbert Hi Maria! I also play piano. I wanted one for years & was finally able to get one. You have a keyboard though, you can still play!
What is giving you a hard time with learning chord piano?
December 5, 2014 at 6:15 am #28530Hi Mike and Maria, welcome! This is definitely the right site to be on. Full of resources and resourceful people. Come join us on the forums.
December 5, 2014 at 8:52 pm #28590Hi. James here. I play bass guitar. Looking to be able to play by ear, recognize different pitches, tune my bass by ear for starters.
December 5, 2014 at 10:41 pm #28594@James Hi & welcome. Lots of useful info & friendliness here. Guitar tuning has to be done frequently, doesn’t it? I always see guitarists tuning after a song or two. I can’t imaging if I had to tune my piano like that! LOL
