Hi, I am Ray T.I started to learn piano at age of 65.I am interested to learn how to play it by ear or memorize songs. Thank you
Hi Ray! It’s always good to hear from late bloomers. As far as learning by ear, keepit simple at first then you can blossom from there! Good luck !
Hi Ray. Inspiration with your first post, what a feat! 65, now that is motivation. Where are you from?
Hi Bruce! I play piano also. Dabble in all sorts. Basically songs I like & want to learn. I’m trying to do the same thing. Pick out chords so I don’t have to be tied to learning a song from sheet music.
Hi Ray! That’s great! I stated playing piano at 47. 34 yrs after quitting the organ as a kid. Always wanted to play piano, parents bought an organ. So I bought one. I absolutely love it. Wish I could play all day, but you know, work gets in the way ha ha.
I/m here trying to develop my ear, too. Memorizing is easy. It just happens from playing something over & over.

Hi Tony! Welcome. It’s nice to have you hear with us. I play piano.
Hi My name is Betty and I have been taking classical piano lessons for about 10 years. I would like to learn to play piano by ear so that I don not need to rely so completely on written music.
@tones Hi Tony, welcome. If that is your aim then ear training is definitely one of the major components to master. I’m sure you will achieve your dream with the help from this website.
@bettymusic Hi Betty, welcome. Well, you sure have progressed well with the years experience you have. I’m sure with the ear training you will receive here you will appreciate your music in a completely new way :).
@betty Welcome! 10 yrs of classical training is pretty impressive, do you perform? I think it’s great that you’re interested in learning to play by ear. I’m also venturing away from written music so I can expand my playing.
@betty yes welcome Betty! We are happy to have you! Hope this helps you immensely
